Life IS…Game on!

That is what I was asking myself.  I had been the #1 Realtor for my company for years.  Then the market shifted.  I wasn’t feeling passionate about it anymore.  Don’t get me wrong, I loved helping people through the process of selling and buying homes.  But I kept feeling compelled to help at an even deeper level…to explore the field of human sexuality and spirituality.  I started following various blogs, learning about tantric yoga and began feeling a sense of empowerment as a woman. 

Through Facebook, I connected with a photographer.  We met for drinks at a local restaurant on a Sunday evening.  The purpose of the meeting was just to see if I would feel comfortable with this guy and if I would consider posing nude for him.  It was sunset and he said “Well, I have my camera in the car and we have a little daylight left.  Do you want to go for it now?”  And the next thing I knew I was disrobing on the cliffs of the Pacific Ocean at Black’s Beach in La Jolla.

The photographer created a slide show of the photos.  I was 48 years old and I looked hot (if I do say so myself!).  I decided to forward the link to a few friends not only because I was proud of the images, but to ask my friends support in my journey into a possible new career.  I wanted to help people with transitions in their lives.  I began coaching people to embrace whatever they felt passionate about. I went from being a Real Estate agent to a New Beginnings agent. 

Well, back to the learning.  I learned quickly that you don’t always know who your “friends” are.  One who received my email took it upon themselves to forward it to others and before I knew it, my link had gone “viral” and had thousands of hits within days.  I have been experiencing the backlash ever since.  I was getting calls, emails and texts everyday from people in my community who were condemning me.  My company said I didn’t fit with their image anymore.  I got calls saying “Why would you do that?” “People think you are nuts.”  “The women in Carmel Valley think you have lost it.”  “Everyone is looking at you with pity.”  Not all were like that.  Some people were supportive, telling me I looked great and a few “You go girl!” notes.

I had the opportunity soon after that to attend a lecture at the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla given by Bram Dijkstra who had just published his most recent book entitled “Naked, the Nude in America” and he signed my copy “For You, and the cause of nudity!” 

I had a listing appointment during that time period for a $3 million dollar home. Prior to signing the agreement I told the clients my story. I wanted them to hear it from me not someone else. They didn’t care.  They signed the contract.  When I was leaving their home I thanked them for the opportunity to represent them in the sale of their home.  They thanked me and said they were proud to have hired the Naked Realtor.  I love happy endings!
